Operation Lampino

I. SITUATION

Due to limited availability of personnel (5 SBP, 7 CAP), Operation Lampino was conducted as a smaller-scale joint op. Originally planned to take place on IceBreakr’s upcoming South American terrain, technical issues required relocation to Yulakia v1.1, coinciding with its imminent release.

The operation was initiated following a seismic event near Barmanovo, which was followed by unusual radio transmissions originating from Site-78—a Cold War-era biological weapons facility believed to have been dismantled in the 1980s. Complicating the situation further, a Yulakian scientific team helicopter en route to the site crashed, and the Barmanovo mayor’s son went missing after reportedly investigating anomalous fungal activity near the Tambova River.


II. MISSION OBJECTIVES

  1. Secure helicopter crash site and recover any survivors.
  2. Locate and rescue the mayor’s son, using the trace of his mobile phone.
  3. Secure Site-78, assess and neutralize the threat, and recover any devices linked to the radio transmissions.

III. EXECUTION

Command:
SBP delegated operational command to CAP, with Hormitron assuming the role of commanding officer (C/O) due to Lomas’ absence.

Phase I: Crash Site Recovery
Following a rapid armament and assessment of available vehicles, a combined SBP-CAP convoy was assembled. SBP led the column toward the PAV (Papa Alpha Victor) checkpoint, establishing overwatch on the river valley.,

A column of smoke was spotted, confirming the crash site. From long-range optics, a handcuffed survivor was observed under guard by hostile elements, including multiple armed individuals and Russian civilian vehicles.

Upon reaching PAV, a fireteam was deployed to secure a demolished structure across the river. SBP successfully neutralized three hostiles armed with AKMs and RPGs. However, a concealed RPG team on elevated terrain engaged our lead MRAP, resulting in a vehicle loss luckly without casualties.

CAP responded effectively, eliminating the threat and sustaining one KIA and two WIA due to secondary engagement with a rebel UAZ-mounted AA team that deployed RPG-7 from close vicinity.

The handcuffed scientist was in the meantime successfully extracted by CAP’s southern team. The remainder of the scientific crew was confirmed deceased. The first objective was completed, and the survivor was transported safely back to base.

Phase II: Search and Rescue – Mayor’s Son
Following rearmament, the joint force redeployed via rotary wing assets (Cougar helicopter), avoiding Site-78 due to potential AA threats. LZ Tambova insertion was uneventful.

En route to the last known signal of the mayor’s son, a minefield was encountered, prompting immediate halt and reroute via hard surface roads. The signal led to a hydroelectric plant, where the mayor’s son was located in captivity.

CAP conducted a swift assault on the holding location while SBP secured surrounding structures. Hostiles were neutralized and the VIP extracted.


During exfiltration, a rebel light convoy engaged our position, culminating in a VBIED detonation (nitrate-laden cistern truck) upon neutralization of the driver holding a dead man trigger.

One WIA from shrapnel was stabilized and extracted with assistance from CAP’s quickly reinserted helicopter team. Objective Two complete.

Phase III: Assault on Site-78
With rearmament completed, the joint convoy approached Site-78. CAP took lead with two URO VAMTAC ST5s, and SBP followed in a newly deployed Spanish APC equipped with a 30mm autocannon.

Enemy resistance was significantly escalated. CAP vehicles were pinned down by a rebel BMP-2, and SBP’s APC was forced to withdraw after engagement by a T-55 tank concealed in dense vegetation. Personnel dismounted and proceeded on foot.

Intelligence later confirmed (unknown to SBP/CAP active forces) that rebel forces were transferring unknown biological material into the local water treatment plant, resulting in aggressive civilian behavior due to exposure. Both enemy armored units were neutralized with anti-armor assets.

Site-78 was secured following a sustained firefight with at least 10 enemy combatants. A portable satellite transmission unit and communications dishes were recovered on the ridge above the site.

C/O has given SBP their Vamtac light vehicle and with it we quickly exfiltrated the recovered device to base while the remaining CAP force cleared remaining hostile resistance. Objective Three complete.


IV. RESULTS & ASSESSMENT

Mission Outcome:
Operation Lampino was a success. All primary objectives were completed with minimal friendly casualties.

  • Enemy Casualties: ~30+ confirmed KIA, 3 vehicles (incl. BMP-2 and T-55) destroyed
  • Civilians: 1 VIP rescued, several civilians sickened due to rebel contamination efforts and had to be neutralized due to imminent threat to friendly forces. Rest of civilians were later located by Yulakian Army in a nearby cave where water spring was uncontaminated as they took shelter there.

Command Performance:
Hormitron demonstrated strong and adaptable leadership under dynamic conditions. Coordination between SBP and CAP was effective and professional throughout all phases despite several decisions that needed to be addressed quickly (mines, counter attacks, surprise RPG ambush).

Recommendations:

  • Increase pre-deployment reconnaissance to detect concealed threats (e.g., RPG teams, armored vehicles).
  • Improve minefield detection for future operations in post-conflict zones.
  • Maintain rotary wing support in reserve for rapid QRF and MEDEVAC. Field hospital is able to threat all wounds way more effectively than on the battlefield (note: scripted instant healing in the facility at the base).
  • Employ Spanish F/A-18 against armor (with additional pilots that were missing in this Op).

FOB Vihor – we headed out of our FOB and pretty much right away, the Recon unit spotted a roadblock on the road to the objective.

Bradley engaged and eliminated the threat while our team (and other teams) dismounted the vehicles and proceeded to our staging area. We were tasked with clearing two quite large buildings and cleared them in a furious CQB firefight. Alpha 1 team assisted us with clearing the north side of the compound when we had a few casualties. Other than that, we held the building while Bradley engaged any enemy QRF vehicles.

Team movement was okay, a bit hectic at times, but that’s usually how CQB fighting is. I’m really glad to see our muzzle awareness was good and we didn’t have any blue-on-blue while in the building.

Communications Tower – next objective was the destruction of the enemy’s comms tower. Luckily, I remembered to bring a few blocks of C4 (H3rich had a backup block), so all teams basically reached their staging areas and cleaned up the tower area quickly. Our team planted the C4, coordinated the retreat to a safe distance for detonation with other teams, and turned the tower into a steaming pile of debris. Not much to say here. Good job

Echo Hill – several AAA vehicles were spotted at this objective and we had to eliminate them. My mistake was that I totally overlooked where the CO marked our AO (yellow color didn’t help :S), so we went too far north and accidentally attacked Alpha 1’s AO. After I saw my mistake, we all proceeded south, where we encountered a AAA that had a quicker trigger finger than me and sent me (and the building next to me) to the ground.

There wasn’t much infantry presence here, which is weird since AAA emplacements usually have some infantry patrols guarding them. My bad for missing our AO — made the team spread out too far, and so movement over terrain was not optimal. It was getting late, and that showed.

Vatra Valley – this was a similar objective that required us to clear the valley of enemy presence. From our vantage point above the valley, I could see at least three armored vehicles just loitering in the middle of large open areas, and with proper AT weapons they would’ve been an easy kill. Sadly, we had to get close and personal. While getting to our staging area, we had a strange situation when we started hearing shots towards us and even saw tracers flying over our heads, so we started shooting back in the general direction. After a few seconds, we figured out we had engaged Alpha 1 on top of the hill, who were engaging enemy infantry just below us. Talk about the fog of war, right?! After that, we went to help Alpha 1 and tried to clear their west flank since they had enemy units flanking them. By the time we got to their location, the situation was under control, so we got orders to join up with the Recon squad and push south with them. This is when shit hit the fan. Suddenly, two enemy attack helicopters flew into the AO and obliterated the Recon squad, and almost got our team too while we were rescuing them. I have no clue who destroyed both helicopters, but thank you. We had no AA defense and would’ve been obliterated in minutes. This is where I had to leave the mission #becausejob. We were all over the place here. The terrain was really not appropriate for vehicle combat, so we mostly walked around. The fact we had to help Alpha 1 and Recon, who were each on opposite sides of the objective AO, made us quite exposed to enemy fire, but we somehow managed to stay alive and even get the Recon team back into action.

At this moment, I’d like to thank the 48MI and CAP teams for attending the OP. The experience of playing a large mission is quite something for such a small team as SBP, and we appreciate you all taking time to play with us. I hope you all had fun too — and thanks for coming to my TED talk. 😉

AAR: OFCRA Yulakian War

Včeraj ob 21. uri smo se SBP-jevci udeležili mednarodnega simuliranega PVP (Player vs Player) eventa pod taktirko francoske skupine OFCRA, ki  jih prireja že vse od leta 2007. Posebnost le teh eventov je, da potekajo pod strogo realističnimi nastavitvami igre in da velja to, da ima vsak igralec le eno življenje v celotnem večeru oz. glavni misiji.

Event je prvič potekal na novi IceBreakrjevi karti Yulakia, ki je bila zadnji dve leti ustvarjana predvsem izpod prstov predvsem nekaj naših talentiranih članov, imeli pa smo tudi nekaj pomoči s tujine (Ukrajina, Srbija, VB, Francija…).

Pridružili smo se strani BLUFOR (julakijska vojska), ki se je pomerila proti osvajalski vojski OPFOR (Sovjeti) v simuliranem letu 1985. Na voljo smo imeli stare puške Armalite AR-10 7.62×51mm z ironsighti. Prevzeli smo ekipo Charlie Rifle Unit One, ki ji je bila dodeljena naloga stražiti nuklearno elektrarno NPP Kastrulya, ki leži v kotlini glavne reke in največjega jezera.

Naloga Sovjetov je bila, da obiščejo tri domače lokacije in z laptopa oz. od oseb prevzamejo 6-mestno kodo s katero bi lahko preobremenili nuklearko in verjetno za “nesrečo” obtožili kar nas.

Pred začetkom smo v SBP naredili nekaj taktičnih skic in pregledali par točk. Vseeno nismo imeli v rokah vseh vajeti, zato smo čakali na ukaz BLUFOR poveljnika. To vlogo je prevzel Oddball z ekipe 19th. Kmalu se nas je na strežniku zbralo več kot 140 ljudi in videti je bilo, da so OPFOR imeli vsaj kakšne tri enote več. Vseeno nas to ni pretirano zmotilo, kajti misija je bila časovno omejena in smo morali le braniti naše tri pozicije.

Zadolžili smo nekaj kosov osnovne opreme, mitraljez M-60 in manjši lanser AT. Prejeli smo tudi oklepno vozilo M113, ki pa ni imelo nameščenega topa ali mitraljeza. Vseeno smo v njem našli več kot 50 kosov streliva s katerim smo se dodobra oborožili. Oddball je poklical k sebi vse vodje oddelkov in IceBreakr je prejel ukaz, da SBP enota prevzame nadzor nad južnim delom nuklearke in zaščiti podzemni kanal s podvodnim dostopom (ljubkovalno dodeljen vzdevek “Sh*thole”). Že pred eventom smo se razdelili na pare, ki bodo v boju delovali usklajeno in se držali skupaj ne glede na vse.

Alpha enota je tako branila mejo na severu, Bravo je bil lociran na vzhodu v mestu Komatin, kjer je bila glavna pisarna za nuklearno znanost, naš Charlie pa v kompleksu nuklearke.

Prve minute so minile in z zadolženim M113 smo se premaknili do vhoda v podzemno cev, kjer sta Sahbazz in -FM- (FallujahMedic) podstavili eksploziv, ki pa ni bil vezan na past. Sierra, Zeemax sta prevzela nadzor nad nejehovskim stražnim stolpom, kjer sta imela lep razgled nad jezerom in vzpetino na južni strani. Ice in Kos sta pazila na vzhodni del nad jezerom za morebitno podvodno ekipo diverzantov.

K sreči so napihljiv čoln Sovjeti pozabili (hote ali nehote) v bazi. BLUFOR je medtem dodelil vse enote z zahodne točke (scientist farm) kar na mejo z vzhodno Yulakijo, kjer so nadzorovali mostove čez katere bi lahko hitro prodrli Sovjeti s svojimi BTR in BRDM vozili. Kmalu se je eno BRDM-2 vozilo res približalo mejnemu prehodu pri glavnem mostu, vendar so se neznano zakaj umaknili kak kilometer nazaj in tam prevzeli nadzor nad kmetijo ob cesti.

Kot je bilo za pričakovati, so z Mi-24 in Mi-8 helikopterjema izvedli desant in neopazno izkrcali vsaj dva voda posebnih enot na JV gorovju, ki se je razprostirano nad nuklearko. Vseeno so potrebovali kode za vpis v računalnik, zato so večino sil skoncentrirali na vzhodni točko v mestu Komatin. Na našo nesrečo smo tam imeli le 3x M113 z 12,7mm topovi in enega brez topa ter le en vod ter manjšo protiletalsko enoto.

Imeli smo srečo, kajti slednja AA enota je opazila Mi-24, ki se je vračal z gorskega desanta in Stinger je helikopter uspel tako poškodovati, da je sicer ob dokaj mehkem pristanku s tlemi le ta zagorel. M113 je obiskal goreče ostanke in dobro novico sporočil vsem vodstvu, le to pa naprej vsem vodjem enot. Prav tako smo prejeli vzpodbune novice, da je Bravo uničil tudi enega ali dva oklepnika.

Enoto Charlie Rifle Unit 1 so sestavljali neki Španci in smo se z njimi le bežno spoznali na začetku operacije, le ti pa so krili severni del nuklearke. SBP je medtem nadziral jezero in premike na gori. Kmalu smo opazili Sovjete na vrhu, ki so poskušali prodreti vse do nuklearke, k sreči so njihovi oklepniki bili na povsem drugem koncu države, vzhodnem Komatinu. Tam se je odvila velika bitka, kjer so se izkazali nekateri posamezniki in predvsem inženir, ki je uspel aktivirati kar dve podstavljeni bombi, ki sta porušili dve stavbi. Prav zadnja eksplozija je uničila celoten sovjetski oddelek preden je zares prišlo do bližnjih srečanj. Soborec Vincenzo je uspel ustaviti sovjetske diverzante in kljub ranam se boril dolgo in dragocene minute so tekle. Prav tako je naša Bravo enota uspešno flankala Sovjete in obenem branila pisarno. Po dolgih bojih je Toxic uspel onesposobiti kar nekaj vojakov, vojak OPFORja po vzdevku Minobe pa je na koncu uspel kot edini s kar 7 killi preživeti v Komatinu, vendar sploh ni obiskal prostorov pisarne za 2 številki kode (to info moramo še preveriti)! Bravo enota je tako zdesetkala največjo sovjetsko enoto in utrpela v Komatinu velike izgube.

Medtem so se vneli hudi spopadi na hribu Z nad nami, Sierra in nekaj ostalih je zadušili napredovanje Sovjetov, ki so nato ob umiki delali napake in so se pri premagovanju skal tudi poškodovali. Prvič smo utrpeli tudi izgube ob sami nuklarki, streli so tudi prileteli v naše stražne stolpe, ki so vseeno nudili dobro zaščito. IceBreakr je fante nenehno opozarjal, da so premiki na našem zahodu lahko preusmeritev pozornosti za napad z vode na vzhodu ali vdor vozil s severa, zato smo vseeno opazovali tudi vse ostale smeri, predvsem obalo jezera in bližnji perimeter.

Minute so konca operacije so medtem tekle in tekle. Opazili smo tudi Mi-8 helikoper, ki je sprva krožil na severu, nato tudi na južnem delu hriba. Vseeno se ni približal nuklearki. Oddball je medtem dobro usklajeval enote in nas razporejal na potrebne dele, SBP pa je medtem imel klasično stražarsko nalogo: preganjati dolgčas. Kljub temu smo vedeli, da proti nam prihaja vsaj 50 vojakov in da smo lahko vsako naslednjo sekundo lahko hitro sredi krvave bitke.

In res, 15 minut do konca misije smo prejeli info, da se oklepniki približuje skozi zahodni gozd. Oddball je končno potrdil našo prošnjo za premik in začeli smo prodirati na SZ del kompleksa, kjer so se bili že boji zelo blizu, oddaljenost le kakih 200m. Kmalu zatem je IceBreakr izgubil stik s poveljnikom BLUFORja (Oddball), bil je nezavesten ali mrtev na strehi ene od večjih zgradb nuklearke. Ice in Kos sta se odpravili proti njemu, Sahbazz in Spidi pa sta medtem se približala oklepniku in ga z razdalje cca. 150m tudi uspešno uničila! SBP je prvič v OFCRA eventih prevzel iniciativo in zadal kritične poškodbe, Sierra je streljal z M60 po pozicijah nasprotnika in jih držal blizu tlem namesto da bi utekavali v naš kompleks.

Kos je medtem sporočil, da je poveljnik Oddball mrtev. Streli so postajali vedno glasnejši in preostali poveljniki so izdali ukaz Alamo. Tega smo določili na začetku operacije za kodo s katero vse enote pokličemo v branjenje stavbe “Reactor Core Controls”, torej glavne točke branjenja, ki so sovražnik ni smel zavzeti. OPFOR-ov KGB agent pod krinko je medtem čakal “tovariše” na strehi stavbe, da bi jim razkril preostali zadnji dve kodi za povzročitev nuklearnega meltdowna, ki bi pahnil Yulakijo v pogubo za nadaljnih xxx let. Tega SBP ni smel prepustili, na radio se nam je javljalo samo še malo enot. Icebreakr je dal ukaz, da se Alamo ukaz izvede in brani zadnja stavba. Vendar pa je do nje uspel priti le medik Kos, ki ga je med zdravljenjem enega od soborcev druge ekipe presenetil eden od sovražnikovih vojakov.

Z nekaj ostalimi NATO vojaki smo streljali iz stavbe, kljub klicom pa naših preostalih vojakov (5!) nisem uspel priklicati do stavbe. Misija je bila kar na lepem v zadnjih 4-5 minutah ponovno odprta in ob zavzetju reaktorja bi Sovjeti lahko izenačili izid točkovanja simulirane misije.

Pod streli je v glavni stavbi padel tudi IceBreakr, poveljnik naše enote Charlie Rifle Unit 2. Na zadnji poziv so se naši začeli le vračati z zahodnega dela kompleksa do stavbe, sovojaki pa so padali eden za drugem. SBP je tako v misiji z več kot 140 igralci držal v roki zadnje upanje na zmago. 2 minuti do izteka… tudi OPFOR je izgubil nekaj vojakov, odmevale so eksplozije ročnih granat, gost dim se je širil okoli reaktorja in glavne stavbe… SBP izgubi po nekem čudnem naključju kar 3 vojake v 5 sekundah, ko sovjetski vojak Jonathan preskoči kar 2m+ visoko ograjo in začne streljati vsepovprek. Ostale le še Zeemax, odjeknejo streli okoli reaktorja. Minuta, mogoče kakšna sekunda več do konca… Zeemax uspe s še enim sovojakom v bližini le nevtralizirati Jonathana, ko se ta ob bližnji eksploziji ročne granate le končno zruši na tla. Pade tudi Zeemax, ki mu ni več pomoči in SBP ostane ob koncu misije brez preživelega vojaka.


Od 140+ vojakov na obeh straneh tako SBP odigra ključno vlogo in vsi “mrtveci” le živčno opazujemo razplet preko “opazovalnega načina” misije…  ostaja v igri le še 7 vojakov(!) na naši strani in 6 na nasprotnikovi. Kar nekaj od teh jih težko ranjenih leži na tleh… naš trud in žrtovanje nista bila zaman in Sovjeti v zadnjih sekundah ne uspejo sprožiti nuklearne reakcije kar nam prinese 6 točk in BLUFOR zmaga ob točkovalnem rezultatu 8:2!  

Tako napete zmage pa še ne in hkrati tudi naše prve. Sicer posthumno, ampak tudi to šteje 😉 v preteklosti smo udeležili treh eventov (tereni Lingor, Fapovo, Chongo) in gre nam vedno bolje 😉 v afriškem Chongu (simuliran po pravem terenu z Angole) smo pred leti tudi uspeli preživeti LRP (long range patrol) skoraj vse do zadnjega razpleta, kjer pa so bili nasprotniki bolj spretni.

Tokrat nam je končno uspelo in kljub zadnjemu spopadu smo uspešno obranili “domačo” nuklearko in junaško odslužili domovini. Na Yulakijo se bomo verjetno še vrnili prav kmalu, v igri pa je tudi nekaj drugih zanimivih terenov, kjer se lahko pomerimo z najboljšimi spletnimi vojaki.
